Vietnam will play Thailand for the ASEAN Cup 2026 championship title
The return leg of the final will take place on August 26 in Hanoi, and after a 2–0 victory in the first meeting, the Vietnam national team gained a serious advantage ahead of the decisive game.
On August 26, the Vietnam national team will play the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final against Thailand. The match will kick off at 20:00 local time at My Dinh National Stadium in Hanoi. The new tournament champion will be determined based on the aggregate result of the two matches.
The first final match took place on August 22 in Bangkok. The Vietnamese team defeated Thailand 2–0, scoring both goals in the second half. Thanks to this, Vietnam takes a two-goal advantage into the home match.
For Vietnam, this final is of special significance: the team is aiming to win the ASEAN Cup twice in a row for the first time in its history. Previously, only the national teams of Thailand and Singapore had achieved such a result in the tournament.
After the victory in Bangkok, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced a bonus of 2.5 billion dong for the team. Taking into account previous payments from the federation and sponsors, the total amount of bonuses received by the team by this point has exceeded 10 billion dong.
If Vietnam wins the tournament, the national team will also receive $300,000 from the AFF. According to Báo Thế giới và Việt Nam, taking into account the bonuses already received and possible additional rewards, the team’s total prize money could approach 20 billion dong.
Interest in the decisive game in the country is very high: tickets for the match in Hanoi are selling out quickly, and people are expected to watch the broadcast in cafés, bars, and other public places. If they successfully defend the title, Vietnam will become ASEAN Cup champions for the second year in a row.
