Phu Quoc accelerates infrastructure preparation for APEC 2027
Phu Quoc is actively preparing to host the APEC summit in 2027. At the same time, 21 major infrastructure projects are being implemented on the island, including the modernization of the international airport, the construction and reconstruction of roads, the development of urban rail transport, and the creation of new event venues.
One of the key facilities will be the multifunctional APEC theater with a capacity of 4,030 spectators. Its architecture combines modern solutions with elements of Vietnamese culture. Work is currently underway at the site to install 50 large columns, and the main structural work is about 98% complete. After the summit is over, the venue is planned to be used for concerts, festivals, conferences, and other large-scale events.
A significant portion of the work is focused on Phu Quoc International Airport. The runway expansion has already been completed, the new VIP terminal is estimated to be about 96% ready, and the T2 passenger terminal is 72% complete. The modernization is expected to increase the airport’s capacity and create conditions for handling a growing number of domestic and international flights.
At the same time, ground transport infrastructure is being developed on the island. Among the projects are new and expanded roads, as well as an urban rail line that is expected to connect key areas of Phu Quoc and the facilities involved during APEC.
Most of the main projects must be completed no later than May 31, 2027, so that the infrastructure is fully ready for APEC events. Authorities and contractors are now accelerating the work and monitoring compliance with the established deadlines. The large-scale infrastructure upgrade is intended not only for hosting the summit. After APEC, the new roads, transport system, expanded airport, and public facilities will remain on Phu Quoc and can be used by local residents and tourists. The development of the transport network should also improve access to different parts of the island and support further tourism growth.
