In Phan Thiết, the traditional fishermen’s festival Cầu Ngư is taking place
Until August 8, guests can look forward to ancient sea ceremonies, a boat procession, hundreds of lanterns on the Cà Ty River, folk performances, and a large fair.
The traditional Cầu Ngư festival is taking place in Phan Thiết — one of the main celebrations of the local fishing communities. This year, the program began on August 1 and will continue until August 8, with the main events held in the area of the historic Vạn Thủy Tú Temple (Whale Temple).
Cầu Ngư is dedicated to Cá Ông — the Whale Deity, which in Vietnamese coastal culture is considered the patron of fishermen and the protector of people at sea. The tradition of whale worship has existed here for many generations, and the festival itself is included in Vietnam’s National Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
One of the most spectacular events will be the boat procession along the Cà Ty River. More than 500 lanterns will also be released onto the water, along with traditional religious ceremonies, folk performances, games, and street concerts.
At the same time, a large trade and food fair is operating, featuring more than 300 stalls. For tourists, the festival is an opportunity not only to see colorful events, but also to get acquainted with the culture and customs of the fishing communities of Vietnam’s central coast.
The festival will continue until August 8, so it can still be visited in the coming days.
