In Vietnam, the Tết Trung Thu celebrations begin
Festive events dedicated to Tết Trung Thu — the Mid-Autumn Festival — are taking place in Vietnam. In 2026, the main date of the holiday falls on September 25, although in some cities themed programs began much earlier.
In Hanoi, celebrations in the Old Quarter started as early as September 11. For two weeks, cultural and entertainment events are being held in the Hoan Kiem Lake area and the Old Quarter: fairs, exhibitions of traditional toys, workshops, performances, and programs for children.
One of the central events will be the festive procession on September 25 in the pedestrian zone around Hoan Kiem Lake. About 1,000 people are expected to take part in 15 themed columns. The program includes traditional lanterns, figures of carp and other Trung Thu symbols, as well as lion and dragon dances.
A separate program is also being held at the city level. In Dong Anh District, an evening celebration, “Đêm hội Trăng rằm 2026,” is scheduled for September 25, featuring musical performances, lion dances, gifts, and meetings between children and artists. Municipal authorities have also instructed districts to hold events for children from September 20 to 25.
In Hoi An and other tourist centers, events related to the lantern tradition are also taking place. Vietnamese people traditionally celebrate the holiday with family gatherings, mooncakes, children’s lantern processions, and performances by dance groups.
Tết Trung Thu is especially focused on children. In many cities, games, creative activities, cultural performances, and festive processions are organized for them. One of the most recognizable symbols of the holiday remains the colorful paper lanterns that children carry through the streets in the evening.
In Hanoi, the festive program in the Old Quarter will continue until September 25, so residents and tourists will be able to visit themed venues and events throughout the entire preparation period leading up to the main day of the holiday.
