In Hanoi, bus and metro rides will be free for five days

From August 29 to September 2, residents and tourists of the capital will be able to use public transport free of charge during the festive events marking Vietnam’s Independence Day.

In Hanoi, during the five-day holiday dedicated to National Day on September 2, fares on city buses and two urban railway lines will be suspended. Free travel will be available from August 29 to September 2, 2026, and will apply to both residents of the capital and tourists.

As part of the program, both operating metro lines will be available: 2A Cát Linh — Hà Đông and 3.1 Nhổn — Hà Nội Station. The city expects this to increase the use of public transport during the holiday events while also reducing pressure on the road network.

Bus services during the holidays will operate from 4:30 to 22:30. More than 17,000 bus trips are planned daily, maintaining regular connections between city districts, transport hubs, and venues for mass events.

For the metro, services are planned to run at intervals of about 10 minutes. In addition, the city has prepared 42 reserve buses, which can be deployed on routes if necessary in the event of a sharp increase in passenger traffic.

These additional measures are linked to the expected rise in the number of people in central Hanoi during National Day. At the same time, the authorities have prepared a separate traffic regulation plan for the main entrances to the city and the busiest streets.

For tourists, free transport will be especially convenient during the holiday events: the metro will allow faster travel between different districts, while the bus network will provide access to a larger number of city venues without additional travel costs.
