In Hanoi, a real-time rain and flooding map has been launched
In Hanoi, a mini-app called “Rain and Flood Map” (Bản đồ mưa ngập) has been launched, integrated into the iHanoi digital services platform for residents of the capital. The service allows users to track rainfall intensity and flooding levels in different parts of the city in real time.
The data comes directly from an automatic monitoring system operated by Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company (HSDC). Information on rainfall amounts and water depth is continuously updated, and the map shows the coordinates of observation points. By selecting a specific point, the user can see its name and address, the amount of rainfall recorded, and the flooding level.
Rainfall and flooding levels are indicated on the map using a color scale. This makes it possible to quickly assess the situation on a particular street and understand in advance whether it is worth changing the route. In the app, users can search for information by street name, district, or observation station, and also switch between different map display options.
A separate feature is automatic alerts. Users can set up notifications about heavy rain or flooding in a selected area. The alert radius can be set from 1 to 100 kilometers, and users can also choose a suitable time to receive messages.
The service does not require installing a separate app: the “Rain and Flood Map” is already built into iHanoi, so it is available to platform users on Android and iOS. According to the authorities, iHanoi has about 6.5 million registered accounts.
The new feature is especially relevant during the heavy rain season, when localized flooding can quickly affect traffic conditions. Residents can check the situation before traveling and choose a route based on current rainfall and water level data.
