In Dak Lak, foreigners attempted to steal gold from a jewelry store
On the morning of September 15, an attempted theft took place at the Tiến Viễn jewelry store in Đắk Lắk Province. According to preliminary police information, a group of foreigners arrived at the store in a white car. Two of them — a man and a woman — entered the store, while two others remained in the car.
The man began talking to the store owner and distracted his attention. Meanwhile, the woman approached the display case with gold jewelry. The key to the case had been left in the lock, so she was able to open it and take three gold bracelets with a total value of about 208 million đồng (approximately $7,900).
The store owner noticed what was happening and raised the alarm. The woman dropped all three bracelets under the display case, after which she and the man ran out of the store. They headed toward the white car waiting for them, where two other people were inside, and attempted to flee.
The alarm signal from the store was immediately relayed to the local police. Officers began pursuing the car and at the same time informed other police units in Đắk Lắk and neighboring Gia Lai.
During the chase, the car was traveling at high speed along National Highway 1D. A police officer from Xuân Lộc Commune, having received information about the vehicle, spotted it on the road, turned around, and began pursuit. Soon, a police patrol as well as traffic police from the two provinces joined the operation.
At around 8:05 a.m., approximately an hour after the attempted theft, the car was stopped on Highway 1D near Suối Phường Bridge in Gia Lai Province. Four foreigners were in the car — three men and one woman. All of them were detained and taken to the police station for further investigation.
According to preliminary information, the man and woman who were inside the store are suspected of direct involvement in the attempted theft. The other two foreigners were in the car during the incident. Police are determining the role of each detainee.
The identities and nationalities of the detainees have not yet been officially disclosed. Law enforcement officers continue to examine the circumstances of the incident and conduct interrogations. The investigation is ongoing.
