Heavy rains flooded Lao Cai: the water rose by more than one meter

Heavy rains caused localized flooding and landslides in northern Vietnam. Roads and agricultural areas were inundated, and traffic had to be blocked on certain sections.

From the evening of August 2 to the morning of August 3, Lao Cai Province was hit by heavy downpours that led to a sharp rise in water levels, localized flooding, and landslides. In some areas, floodwaters exceeded one meter in depth. Water inundated roads, residential areas, and rice fields.

In Coc San Commune, reports of flooding and landslide threats came in from several settlements at once. A difficult situation also developed on the road toward Y Tý. Due to the danger of further landslides and flooding, traffic on certain sections was temporarily blocked, and authorities organized round-the-clock monitoring to prevent vehicles from attempting to pass through dangerous zones.

Rescue services are helping local residents move belongings out of flooded homes and clearing areas after soil collapses. At the same time, specialists continue to inspect roads and assess damage to farmland and infrastructure.

According to preliminary information, there are no deaths or injuries. However, authorities warn that after prolonged rains, the soil remains oversaturated, so the risk of new landslides and flash floods persists in mountainous areas. Residents and tourists are advised to follow warnings from local services and not to cross flooded sections of roads.
