A large-scale Mid-Autumn Festival “Moon Journey” will take place in Nha Trang
On September 25, Nha Trang will host the Mid-Autumn Festival “Moon Voyage” (Hải trình Ánh trăng) in a large-scale format for the first time. The main venue will be April 2 Square, where organizers will combine Tết Trung Thu traditions with the marine and island theme of Khánh Hòa. The festival is intended for children, local residents, and tourists.
The main visual symbol of the event will be giant figures of sea creatures over 4 meters tall. They are inspired by the concept of the “Sea Route of Four Bays” and will represent images characteristic of the region — swallows, dolphins, sea turtles, whales, fish, and other marine creatures. Such figures will become part of the Mid-Autumn Festival decorations in Nha Trang for the first time.
Another important part of the program will be thousands of lanterns. Organizers plan to create a large illuminated space along the coast, and children and families are invited to take part in festive activities with their own lanterns.
Guests can expect traditional entertainment and a cultural program: lion and dragon dances, folk games, creative workshops, and artistic performances. The program will also include bài chòi performances, meetings with traditional theatrical characters, appearances by Chị Hằng and Chú Cuội, as well as musical numbers.
The festive program will not be limited to April 2 Square. An additional venue will be April 16 Square in the Đông Hải area. A lantern decoration contest, artistic performances, and lion and dragon dances are planned there.
The festival will also have a charitable component. As part of the campaign “The Moon Sends Dreams” (Trăng gửi ước mơ), organizers plan to donate thousands of notebooks to schoolchildren facing difficult circumstances, including children from the island communes of Khánh Hòa. The initiative is intended to help students prepare for the new school year.
Organizers describe “Moon Voyage” not simply as an entertainment program, but as a new cultural event for the region that combines Tết Trung Thu traditions, Khánh Hòa’s maritime identity, and the modern format of an urban festival. For Nha Trang, it is also a new tourism product that is expected to add festive activity to the city during the Mid-Autumn Festival period.
